Seems like a bit of a dead donkey to me. That seals it for me.... For Sale "Spares or repair"...
The report from the garage may help as evidence to give you grounds to make a claim against the seller at a small claims court .The vehicle was not fit for purpose.
if its a private seller then no comeback what so ever....

True, but then it was sold as seen, and i didnt know what i was looking at anyway - sounded ok and drove ok....for 180 miles.... then the rac got a call! Silly me!!!
The head gasket i can put down to experience on the grounds i should have been checking the fluid,
however that doesnt excuse the major leak in the cooling system that caused the overheating, or the £800 of welding needed for the mot!
I will be speaking to a solicitor in work, however i dont think i've got much grounds.
Can anyone guess which auction site i bought it from? doh!

Well first ever car i bought, did the same, so you aint alone....how long had it got left on MOT? it sounds that bad, it shouldnt have had one in the first place.....now theres a road to go down (sorry about the pun)

It has the whole of 8 days remaining on the mot. Doh! But at least theres a whole 4 weeks of tax left so i spose that gives me time to get rid!

whatever you buy and whoever you buy it off, the product must be fit for purpose. if it stated on your reciept that it was for repair or spares then you`ve had it, but if it was sold to you as a mode of transport and you can prove, which it sounds like you can that its not a reliable mode of transport or indeed roadworthy (an mot inspection my help) then you have a valid appeal.
speek to a solicitor.

800 notessounds a bit extreme for welding. try speaking to andyvan (based just past swansea) who is a proper bloke to deal with. im sure he wont charge that much to put it right structuraly
