its a nice view from the slopes isnt it. i would like to go back in the summer for another look

We took our van to Germany over Christmas and slept out in various car parks for 3 nights on the way. On the coldest it got down to -3 in the van, and while we were warm enough in our duvet and fleece blanket laden bed, getting up was another thing!

On that particular night our gas froze (note to selves, get a bottle of propane) as did all of the water we had everywhere and the potti flush, also when hubby went to fold down the tap in the sink, it snapped off!! We also had a solid layer of ice on the inside of all of our windows.

Still, like the trooper it is - Vanno started pretty much first turn, and clearing the ice helped us warmed up

Not a winter camping vehicle though, no no no no no.

Still fun mind - as always

Have to stay in mine three nights per week (since September), get carpets or rugs foor the floor, full set of thermo screens for the windows (just Kampers) and an electric heater (at least 1.5Kw) as recommended. No problem except for condensation forming behind the thermal screens when its really cold. An underslung water tank is the only problem if temp. falls below freezing (thats why I bought a Karisma -internal tank, fab!)

More importantly joshb, how was the skiing?

When I go away in the winter (which I do every year) I'm never on a hookup. Not actually slept in the camper yet (have a tourer), but my daughter has, and she was plenty warm enough - 18-year-old girls soon complain if they're cold! Experience of sleeping in a tourer in sub-zero temperatures suggests that you really need some form of heating.

, but I kept well under that and fitted a Carver SB1800 which cost me £20 off ebay. With that and the JK window mats the van is toasty!

the skiing was great although the winds and blizzards stopped play later on,, it was -5 on one night, we were snug,, we have JK thermal blinds, just a fair bit of condensation next morning..

I pick up my first ever camper & T25 on Sunday, can't wait so I'm going to do a couple of 1 nighters here and their over Feb and early March.

I've slept in a tent at about -5 with just a 4 seasons sleeping bag, so I reckon I'll be fine in the van

If i was totally honest i would have to say i,m not a big fan of winter camping.
I prefer to go camping when the weather is nice,the T4 is all set up for winter with propex double isulating, hot water heater etc but i still prefer to do other things in winter and start camping again when the spring arrives.
Will do the odd winter camp out but it dont really do it for me.

we did it for purely (well mostly) practical reasons, ie cheaper than B&B and more fun!

Were well set up for year round, just refitted my thermX as well as the propex, we find it works well during awake hours as its quieter than the P'pex and dont use lecky,

I love it when a big storm comes up as were allways warm, only dowside is the short days,

We had newyear on the top of a moor over looking the whitby area, never saw a soul from 8pm onwards and the fireworks at the coast were brilliant even though you couldnt hear them.

the short days can be a bit of a pisser especially when you have a 2 year old with you. we found in the winter if we make dinner after it has gone dark and make an evening of it its not to bad. i do get a buzz when its really bad weather thinking your makeing the most of your bus

Yeah, I love it when the rain is lashing against the side of the van, the wind is blowing it around and your just lying cosy in the back chuckling yourself to sleep.
