Thanks Manxman. It never crossed my mind that it'd fit on directly, with no hose. Very neat. I used my Webasto (with no filter) this morning to de-ice the screen. I won't normally use it for that (warm water is much quicker!), but this morning I had 'new toy syndrome' after getting it working yesterday. I meant to get the vernier calipers on the inlet fitting on the fan today, but have not had time, as I see the seller on eBay has different sizes. It looks like the smallest (22mm) to me.

That motor failure is bizarre! I've never seen that happen to a motor before.

Good to know CJ had plenty of spares, although I don't need anything now after solving the foam problem.

Aidan - was your Webasto factory fitted, with 2 non return valves and one solenoid in the engine bay? If so it could be plumbed like mine - to heat the interior, not the engine. From the testing I did to sus out what I had plumbed wrong, my solenoid is normally open i.e. closes when energised, which only happens when the Webasto only is on. This stops flow through the engine, so the interior warns up quicker. I've not been able to find out whether they were all plumbed like this, but mine's an ex ambulance, so it could be plumbed as an engine pre heater in other applications?

now you mention it mine doesn't seem to warm up the motor, but there is a plug in point on the back and an electric element in the block so maybe thats why.

would be nice if it did heat up the motor to though.............


thinking about it though as soom as you start it up all the nice hot water will flow around the engine anyway so maybe there is no point altering it

Yes mine heats the interior.. but need to look at how the valaves work.. think one is stuck open and doesnt allow the engine to warm up very quickly...

Very sorry about the name confusion! the reply was a general one - not to anyone in particuar. I saw the link to Aidan's site in your post, and assumed you were Aidan. I suppose the 'Central France' location should have been a bit of a clue. I hate these web forum pseudonyms - I can never remember who's who.

I drew diagrams of how I think it's supposed to be plumbed after my Webasto initially boiled the water inside it. I suspected a plumbing mistake while fitting the Subaru engine, and eventually sussed that I had got one of the two non return valves in backwards.

My Webasto is in my ex German Ambulance, but my Swedish spec crew cab also has the electric block heater. These are very common in Sweden on all kinds of vehicles (when I worked at JCB we used to fit them to most (possibly all) Swedish machines.

The circuit could probably be easliy modified to make it heat the engine rather than the interior, or both.
