I presume yours is a 1.6 as it looks like you've only got a single carb. You also seem to have lost the shield from the engine bay that separates the top of the engine from the outside world and obviously makes a difference in how clean it stays up there (or maybe this only exists in 2.0 engined vehicles). Trust me when I say I don't make any special effort to keep my engine bay clean and I certainly use the van enough, nearly 7000 miles last year.

I'll post some pictures of the set-up when I've rearranged it and it's (hopefully) working properly!

Out of interest, where did you get your fuel pump from?

I have been told its a 1900 watercooled dg engine. So should that have a single carb?

Should there be a shield at the bottom of the engine bay??

The pump came with the van, all I have done to the van so far is get it serviced (rear brake cylander was all that was needed) and fix the blower.

Seems I have a right mongral bus then......great

Kinell really?

I will try and take more pics tonight as its starting to p*ss me off now.

Just goes to show that I know nowt about what I bought. Its worked great up to the snow and ice. That's when I have had starting problems and so on.

Whats a DF? Engine code? Is there a way for me to find out by looking at the engine or alike.

Thanks for all your help by the way

steady on there!
It should only have one carb, it is a watercooler, the heat sheild is missing from the bottom of the engine bay, but its not essential, and the fuel pump has been added, but should really be under the sill near the petrol tank....... there should only be one fuel filter, right near the tank outlet, if you have a filter near the tank, AND one in the engine bay, thats wrong, and will not help the running..........

ill try and get to a real pc and look at the pix in more detail

you can find your engine number on the bottom flat flange of the oil tower( in your pic between the dissy and the alternator, ) stamped on the flat surface facing you as you squint through the numberplate flap, DG is 78hp 1.9 watercooled, DF is 60hp watercooled 1.9.

i cant see for sure from the pics, but the df carb is smaller than the DG one, with a different shaped air intake cap

Thanks for all your help Mocki, will have a look when I get home.

I wasn't getting p*ssed off with you mate, just my knowledge of what I think own.

I am pretty sure the documents for the van state its a dg with 79 bhp, but I now have my doubt's.

I would love to get twin webbers on it (if they would work) and really go to town on 'bluie'

Again thanks for your help.

Sorry, I just presumed you had an air-cooled van as I think original fuel pumps are available for other models... come to think of it, I think it's only the 2.0 A/C that you can't get the original pump for. I didn't actually think to look at the pictures to see whether there are coolant hoses and so on.

@Mocki - are you saying that I should ditch the filter near the pump on my setup as well?

Just been for a spin, aye that's right got my bus started.

All I did was suck on the hose from the tank, before the filter in the engine bay, then I blew back till I heard bubbles. The ran round switched engine on. Ran round to see if petrol was being pumped through it and it was  Then ran round (lots of running went on) and he started first time. How cool was that?

I took some more photo's, well a couple before I ran out of battery

Next job will be bleeding the clutch. Gears are still pretty difficult to get.

Will check the wiki for instructions.........thanks to all that replied

Pete

Thanks  , I have to admit I am puzzled as to what just happened, but its working so i will let it lie.........

Its amazing how you can spend hours trying to work something out, and not fix it. Then stumble across a  , give it a bash and 5 mins later van starts first time.

Still smiling even now.

I now love my van again......
