Yes and no

I also asked the same question about the difference between these fridges on another forum and there is a difference.
The cheaper one is an absorption fridge whilst the more expensive one is an evaporation fridge.
From what I can gather the absorption fridge will only cool a maximum of 25 degrees below ambient temperature. I did have a look at the cheaper fridge and it looked good but I'm still not sure whether to buy one or save a bit more cash and get an evaporation type.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone with an absorption fridge regarding there performance.

I really can't risk warm beer

The obsorption fidge 25 degree drop means in most cases you can still reach 0 in fridge.

I have know the fridge in my old folding camper struggle to cool food in very warm weather and that was the evaporator type. I'm guessing the ambient temp would be that behind the fridge/in the van not the outside air temp

Would be temp fridge is actually working in. The circulation of air that is absorbing heat off of fridge.

evaps are noisy too

gas fridges freeze beer in the summer in this country...

3-5 deg is more than enough to keep milk fresh and bacon chilled
