You WILL hole a piston/detonate the edges of the piston and prob break a ring... running 95... without timing adjustment...
Dont complain when the engine finally lets go and it costs....!!
No there generally isnt, but seeming as you have a "0" TDC and a 10 deg mark, then you put a little white dot of tipex/paint etc... half way between the 2 then time to that...
Thing is though.. you really need to be at the 10 deg to make better use of the LPG.. then only use 98/99 UL when you have too.. retarding to 5 will knock more off the LPG...

Cheers Si, believe me I only use the petrol when I have to anyway

once a month to keep the lines working, it seems to petre (sp?) out when pulling up at junctions when on fool's gold, runs fine on the good stuff though.

Even 'Super unleaded' is only 97 RON and the sticker next to my filler cap say 98 RON. Is 97 close enough or should I be adding something - I'd rather not blow the bugger to Mars....

Depends on where you fill up.... Tesco super plus is 99.... most others are 98... esso IIRC is 97...
97 is a lot closer than 95..... if concerned about 97, then retard a fraction (to 8 deg maybe) but 97 is prob ok...

Usually fill at Tesco's. It says 97 on their super unleaded pump. I didn't know they did a 'super plus'. I'll have a look around next time I go.

Hiya,
In the same vein, I've just brought a DG engined syncro back from germany, there is a sticker next to the filler that says superbenzine...
Is this 95 or 98 RON?
Seems a bit rough in the low rev range, ok higher up...

98
Samenvatting :
Er zijn dus eigenlijk maar 3 soorten benzine ondanks alle verschillende namen te weten :
Normale benzine (95) zonder loodvervanger : goedkoop
Super benzine* (98 ) zonder loodvervanger : middel
Super benzine (98 ) met loodvervanger : duur
*super petrol (98 ron) without lead

Thats a bit odd... DG (1.9 with carb) only need 95... (actually designed for 92) so why it should ask for 98 I dont know... if it really is a DG then there would be no point in using 98 as the compression ratios is too low to take advantage of it...
Was it originally a DJ engine???? which does require 98...
Well when I worked in Germany a few years ago...
"normal" was 92
"Super" was 95
"super plus" was 97/98
That was tha last time I saw 92UL... and I have been all over France Belgium Holland etc in the last 3 years...

Hiya,
It doesn't say 98 ron, just superbenzin....
Which by the looks of what you say is 95 ron, so I guess I'll stick to the cheap stuff.
Ta for that, sorry for hijacking thread.
