As the cable is still conected to the wheel and hence still turning, it's a safe bet to say it's actually the speedo that's making the noise.

As for a cure maybe a bit od WD40 sprayed into the hole would lubricate it (no pun intended) but you get the idea.

Okay, now it's back on at the wheel end, disconnect it from the speedo. If it stops clicking then it's the speedo, if it still clicks then it's the cable.

90 MPH (Metres Per Hour)!

Mine does this, same thing, noisey speedo cable. Was quiet until I replaced it with a nylon cable (it had the metal spring-wound one).
Going to get behind there soon but I can say its not the speedo. Just make sure the cable is going STRAIGHT into the connector at the back and it is secure, otherwise you get that 'pulsed grinding' noise! I know you solved your problem but thought this would be useful if someone else has the same problem.

Rozzo wrote:mine didn't work when i got it. it was the little circlip than holds the cable through the centre cap on the passenger side front wheel. it had rotted away allowing the cable to slip inwards and out of the square in the cap that it drives off. i pulled it back through and used wire in the circlip groove to stop it slipping back. i now have a circlip but since the wire is working i haven't changed it yet

and I sent that to you AGES ago Mr Rozzo!!!!
