I'd say it's safe to say that none of the engines that VW stuck into the T3 were the dog's danglies.
Not at the time and certainly not now.

Er.. how many if the TD's were modded? (1.9? TDi?) even if it was just the boost turned up?
No LDA fuelling, acceleration of a slug, but keeps pulling down to 1200 rpm, got up there in the muck and mire, so did Pickle's 2WD then got stuck in mud at top, so its a torque thing....

Or in the case of waterboxers a complete lack of torque.

The nearest (petrol) thing to a good 1.9 diesel is the 2.2 Subaru, now they will pull nicely from about 1200 rpm... SyncroPetes does!

Still nothing like diesel torque and lots of electrics to get wet.

We'll see (one day

)...
Methinks Paul and Simon and Kev should go try that ford next weekend...especially if it keeps raining. Never seen quite so much water about, but then I don't live up there or near Doug... but pretty wet wasn't it.

Can't believe how much these Dwesils cost to run.
How noisey and crude they are.
Can't wait to get back into my 2.1 on LPG.
Just had to rebuild both my Dwesils. 1 needed new head
other head gaskets.
1.6JX heads are almost out of stock.
Turbo's need rebuilding.
Can't understand why anyone likes them and Ive got 2
Perhaps its because there simple
The engines not the folk that drive them.

I didn't say that, I merely said that they ain't as good as a Diesel.
Because I fix them weekly doesn't mean I have to like them over a lovely Diesel.
Theres not many sh!tty jobs on a T3, but a clutch slave cylinder on a Diesel syncro is one of the worse jobs to do, doesn't mean because I like syncros I have to like changing syncro slave cylinders does it.
RE: cylinder heads, I've replaced far more petrol heads than Diesel with their crappy head seals.
Broken head stud anyone?
Re: Turbo, just think what they are and where they are, I think brand means nothing, if a Garrett was in the same place doing the same thing Im sure it would have more problems due to its actuator rod being exposed, the KKK is kinda cool with it's integral waste gate, and the syncro specific K14 even more so with it's sealed and vented breather.
Thread wasn't meant to be an attack on the WBX, we know they are dog sh!t and that Diesels are far superior in most ways, just a bit of banter.
People do seem to get a bit precious about them, weird really.
