The CT enbine is different to the other type 1 engines.. but apparently the "normal" type 1 heads can be used, but I dont know what mods/differences are..
the heat exchangers are CT only.... and these mat be difficult to source...
before you lash out on loads of money on the CT, consider spending it on a good 2L unit... this will provide better performance and reliability in the long run..

If you continue with the CT.. DO NOT throw anything away before you have a replacement.. tinware especially is difficult to replace...

MMMM not liking the sound of this too much, the head is split between the valve and the spark plug, and the tinware is already full of holes, I was considering my options earlier,
1=get rid of it
2=change engine for 2L Aircooled
3-ford V6,audi 5 pot, subaru

Not sure where to start,i was hoping that the engine was going to be an easy fix,not so. Ok so how much do you think i should be spending on a second hand 2L air cooled unit?

I would say max £200 and you will need all the tinware.

you should be looking for a complete 2L Aircooled setup out of a T25.. there was opne in the classifieds last week..

Going watercooled is a real headache.....

I managed to fit a 1.7 411 engine in the back of an old CT I had... but it was a lot of hassle to do it right.. wish I hadnt sold it as I was just getting it sorted and it would have been a good testbed for a few ideas I have...

I recently sold a working 2.0L with all the tinware and gearbox for 300 quid.

Seems the most obvious choice for you at the moment.
