My T25 is with Elite VW right now getting it's 1.9 DG engine replaced (straight Swap). Having met the guys and seen the place, they are very clued up and have many years of experience (25+) rebuilding these types of engines.
Obviously, proof is in the pudding so i'll post a responce once I get my Van back, hopefully next Friday!
SYNCRO - Think I saw your van being delivered on the back of the low-loader when i was there last Wednesday!

Well, i picked my van up from Elite today with a replacement engine.
The engine seems fine, but then I've only driven 100 miles since this afternoon.
They're good people to deal with, no bulls**t.

I take the point (rather theatrically made, I thought) that a full, full re-engineered engine is the ideal.
I think purchasers need to ask what they're getting for their money and that post provides useful pointers to check this out.
My impression from my first discussions with Elite was that they knew what they were talking about. They were happy to talk at length in advance about what they did and could do for the price. When I went down there to drop off the van my wife commented that I might want to holiday there (it's full of vans and engines!.) They do have turnning and grinding m/c tools and they clearly have a good knowledge of the engines and vehicles. My own cylinder compression readings on the new engine were vastly better than the old. I've had no oil loss, it runs smoothly and quietly (subect to usual timing and carb tweeks) and I use mine for work as well as play, I'm thrashing up and down the West Mids motorways at least 2 days each week, so I cannot complain.
I suspect that you might get even better results from a more higly re-engineered recon-but I really can't complain for the money at all. They are also very helpful with advice. My one caveat is that my gearbox started to deteriorate some time after the recon. This was as a consequence of the input shaft spigot bearing cracking up. It was many months after the recon but it made me think to check that if you're having your engine done, check that new and good quality bearing is going in. I've no reason to assune that Elite did or did not do this, but it's worth checking.
Shepster, as per your query on logistics, I'll pm you.
Cheers
Jim

Hi
Well that seemed to open up a can of worms. There seem to be satisfied people here. I think it will be a case of popping over to them and having a "chat".
Cheers
Andy.
