A/C very reliable when you look after them, think of them more of an oil cooled engine. Oil can effectivly get burnt, change every 3000miles with my bettle and the engine is still gd.

In a van i would say that an A/C t25 isnt the best its a big old van for an air cooled engine to be pushing along. That said i would love an A/C on LPG as flat 4 engines are just logical and a/c engines are so smooth. That said i have had no problems with my dez engine that i wouldnt expect from a 26 year old van!

You pays your money, you can have what you want.

i must say i have drove a very good 2.0ltr a/c (Andys and julies ) and liked them alot , i've owed and drove 1.6d 1.6td 1.9 dg and 2.1 dj
thing with w/c is keeping the water in , but when a 2.1 is running good then it all the way as is the TD ,, can you fit a 2.1dj crank/pistons into a 2.0a/c block ??

if i was planning a long (5k) round trip i would love a good 2.0 a/c for it .. just keep up on the oil and bob's ya granny

When I was looking for a Westy I didn't want an Aircooled. I wanted a 2.1 watercooled, due to a disliking for Beetles. Anyway, my 2ltr Aircooled is slow, noisy and very thirsty. And absolutely brillant and now I'm glad I got one, and I recommend them to my friends to buy one. So Aircooled for me then. Now where did I put that oil can?

surely a 2.1 fuel injection in a late van is gonna be better than an 2.0 Aircooled in a early van for doing long journeys/touring and using as a daily?

All I hear are preferences not mechanical reasons why. No offence guys I am just trying to clarify in my own mind.

At the end of the day its down to your own choice,when i was looking for a T25 all i wanted was a decent camper van,i wasn,t bothered if it was air or water cooled.
Now i have an air cooled i have become rather attatched to it,and it drives fine so i have no complaints,but if you want something that is faster,then go for a later one if you already have a bay then i should think you know more than me about air cooled engines.
The 2 litre Aircooled engine is a good one,i can only speak from my own dealings with them.
Its up to you at the end of the day what to go for.

i had a 2.0l a/c (never again). when i put the heater on i want warm air to come out!! also i dont like filling the pockets of bp, esso, and shell. all of that excess petrol spendage can now be spent on beer

I previously had an a/c camper & now I've got a w/c but there's not really that much difference in mpg. In winter I do prefer the heat coming from the heater in the w/c rather than the exhaust fumes in the a/c.

There's more to go wrong with the watercooled, particularly with regards to the cooling system with it's miles of pipes all waiting to leak at an inconvenient moment. The water jacket is prone to leaks & on the 2.1 there's the chance of all the coolant being dumped on the road & a seized engine. (Happened to 3 club members in a 2 week period last year! ).

Air cooled engines do sound good & I'm starting to get all nostalgic now.

Ok mate we get the picture .....you dont like air cooled engines!

at the end of the day none of the t25 engines are owt to write home about as they're too puny for the weight of the bus but my Aircooled runs nicely,, does about 20mpg and blows hot air from the heater so it'll do for me.

You often hear people saying that they are cold,but its not the case with mine either! mine gets very warm!
The ones that have problems with no heat must mean that the heat exchangers are not working properly?.

Also in mine the propex heater is behind the front grill so the heat goes straight in to the cab through the heating vents.
If i have been on night shift i always pop out if it has been freezing and switch the propex on 20 mins before i finish so i have a nice warm van and clear windscreen.
i pull out of the car park in my 26 year old van with a big grin on my face while everyone else is scraping the ice off their cars!

except the 1y or aaz diesel, loads of power and 45 mpg now that does rock

to me it sounds like, if you find a bus you like go with what ever engine it has. Sod put a scooby in the back and your sorted
