Because you were hungry and a taco is tastier than a plastic gauge with a metal pointer.

I have AngeloEVS tech sheet on the coolant temperature gauge and testing the whole system.
I presume that is what is missing from the wiki.
(It is in pdf format).

Probably yes.

I read it several years ago. What I remember is very good wiring diagram.

TBH, I think I can go from your post of really positions as you did a bit of specifying which pins went where etc too.

If you have it to hand though it would be appreciated if you could post it

I had very similar issue on mine 1.6td westy.  Intermittent flashing warning lights on coolant level and oil temp gauge . I changed the voltage regulator on the alternator and that’s it sorted .

I've heard a lot about this voltage regulator. What is this please and how eould I change it if I need to.
In the past, if I've ever had issues with an alternator or starter motor, I've always just taken the unit down to my local auto electricians in TW (Curd Bros) eho are nothing short of excellent. Please share

On the back of the cluster is a three-legged transistor.
This is the voltage regulator.

You can buy replacements from places like Brickwerks, but the pin order is back to front.

So if you buy one, you need to fit it 'face down'.

I sent a simple drawing of the regulated ciruit with the voltage regulator in my email last night.

UPDATE:-

I didn't answer your question.
A voltage regulator is used to provide a consistent 10 volts across the gauges, regardless of the voltage passing through than van's main wiring.

In tip-top condition, a vehicle may have as much as 14.5 volts - engine running and virtually no load (heater blower motor etc turned off),
But may be as little as 12 volts or less if the battery is tired, the engine is not running and you are cranking out some heavy bass beats through the radio.

Coming back to the point - if the voltage across the gauges were higher, the needles would indicate a higher value.
And if the voltage was lower, the gauges would indicate a lower value.

10 volts is almost universal across all vehicle instruments of that era, and having a consistent voltage across the gauges means that the values indicated would be more consistent and accurate.

Haven't digested it all yet..took my wagon out for a spin down to Eastbourne.

Started easily 1st turn as normal - no flashing LED.
Went to pick up the old's and when I restarted the van, I did it quickly, not waiting. LED didn't stop flashing so had to turn off and start again.
It seems to do this when I start in a hurry.
I wonder if this is the same for the OP.??

With Robseys gracious help of electrical diagrams, I'm confident that I'll gave a good chance of one day tracking down the issue.

Nope. For me totally random.
I can sit with key in waiting for LED to stop flashing before cranking, and it will just sit flashing away.

On a positive note ( depending on how you view it ) my gremlin returned today with relay 43 removed.

Now I know I have 2 different problems.

One is intermittent LED issue that isn’t related to heat or low coolant levels, and the other is low temp readings with relay 43 in correct position.

Turned key on and off a few times before it all returned to normal.

I’m quietly confident the low coolant circuit has never worked since I owned the van now. I have never played with that relay and it was in wrong position. The only time that could have happened since 2014 was for respray when the dash was out - it’s doubtful though - no reason to take that out.

Next weekend I will check the obvious culprits; dodgy earths, blue ribbon condition, loose nuts etc. also use a multimeter to see what’s going on with coolant level circuit.
