Worth mentioning. Don't use the standard jack if you have sideplanks as the one for them has a longer arm.

Also be aware, those threaded bars do snap.
Hopefully it should only drop a little but it don't arf make you jump.
I've taken to using a small bottle jack under the suspension arms now with appropriate wooden packers.
By far the easiest way to fit the snow chains.
Cheers, Andy

Don't forget to grease the threads on the standard jack every 20 years or so. It'll stop the creaking and groaning

Agreed, that would have been your problem.
The jacks for side planks are not easy to get hold of. Let me know if you need the length of the arm.

ive given up on my standard jack, as the vans toppled off of it twice now  (luckily with all wheels still on) which is scary to a novice like me!
hinders me doing work on the van now as the trolley jack i have doesnt even reach the van to get the wheels off the floor :(

I’ve also given up on the standard jack, as it tops out before the wheel is clear of the ground. Unless somebody can tell me that there’s a Syncro specific version, that’s taller than the 2WD version I probably have, then I’m resigned to a bottle jack or hi-lift moving forward.

I believe there is a syncro-specific one.

Hi Rob , that'd be great if you can tell me the arm length. Is it a completely different jack or is the arm simply have an insert of high strength steel bar inserted into it? Cheers

It's the same Jack. I believe there are a couple of makes. It's just the arm that is longer.

Happy to help mate. The standard jack has an "A" prefix.

I would imagine getting one of those machined wouldn't be to difficult. Certainly easier than trying to scorce a longer armed Jack.

Now thats one for the period-correct OEM accessory nerds. Count me in!

The part number must be in ETKA, in the T3 tools and accessories section?

PS I never expected a VAG jack to be made in England
