What I do to get those nuts to move is to use a sledgehammer as an anvil, and smack across the flats of the nut against the anvil with an ordinary hammer. Then rotate and do each flat in turn. This usually slackens the nut enough to get it turning.

So got heat on it and it made no difference. Took out the inner track rod to try it on a vice and still no go. Tracking rod felt loose anyway so I am just going to buy a new one and fit it instead.

Well, it's out now and cheap to replace.
However, l think there is a special tool needed to fit new one.

I may be wrong....hopefully.

Oh my god don't say that to me , it just screwed out so I'm hoping it just screws back in, surely in due a bit of luck like. Ordered new drop link and roll bar bushes as well to do as I go along

Get a couple of nuts, wind them on the end and lock the together to hold the rod steady.

wire brush the thread behind, soak soak soak nut in plus gas, hold it still on something and give it a good clumpin on the flat of the nut with a mallet.
and don't forget to kin swear at it

Why didn't you just grind it off and get a new nut?

I'm not even joking when I say I literally held a grinder to the nut at one point this morning. Then a friend made me see sense in that the inner rod was completely loose and needed to be replaced. One of the problems in the CVRT test was that the steering was loose and all these issues contribute to it I think so it's worth sorting .

Brickwerks sell a complete rack Inc gators for about £60 I'd swap the whole lot considering you've already bought the track rod ends.

Ya I did exactly that shepster, hoping to get them today or tomorrow so I can just get on with it then.

FWIW...just inboard of the threaded end on the track rod are two flats, which are used to hold the rod while setting the tracking and tightening the locknut. Doesn't help when the threads are rusty though.

When replacing the trackrod, you have to use a small punch to knock the narrow lip near the big short thread into a notch on the end of the rack bar. This is what locks it in place and prevents it from unscrewing in use.

They're decent enough I fitted one last year.

Ya due for delivery tomorrow but I must head away on Saturday until Wednesday which is a dose. Hopefully now though once I have that it will be straight forward going back together and then I must just repeat the process on the other side.
