Yeah, all good cheers Stu, hope you and the clan are well. Continuing to save to get the bits for the Beetle at the moment as hoping to do a top end rebuild this year.

Great stuff mate!  Just seen your other thread and it's looking good chap.  Won't be long now.

After successfully refurbing the head nuts, l became overly puffy chested and cockerel strutty. So l decided to redirect my financial gain by buying a digital torque adapter.

Here it is....

Image

And what a complete waste of 62 quid.
I have three torque wrenches (l hear you comment, why?). One beam bar and two ratchet clickety types.
Adding the supplied batteries l clamped the new digital adapter in a vice and tested at 50nm, or 37lbs.... the final of two torque settings for tightening cylinder head bolts.

Not a rewarding outcome......

At 37lbs/50nm on my three wrenches the head unit displayed 29.9lbs/40.6nm. More tests showed it is wildly inaccurate throughout all settings and potentially engine ruining.
Also the batteries lasted less than 15 mins before showing the Lo warning sign and buzzer sounded.
I dont think the calibration certificate is worth the paper it is written on.
I will start an eBay return tomorrow.

Leaving on a positive. Emailed Michael at Brickwerks on Weds morning. Received a swift reply to my query, and then another immediate response after my second enquiry. Then l placed my order around 1pm and it's delivered today

Well done :ok

Put 40 quid to it and buy something decent. This is what I use, and it's excellent.

Hmm... personally I wouldn't risk the cheap one.

Those bolts look great, you must be very pleased with how they have cleaned up. I often re-use old bolts and clean them up, not usually to that level, but there is something very satisfying about keeping the original parts going. And thanks for posting your methods Stu, was hoping you would do so, always interested to know how things were done.

I've got some catching up to do! :ok

Sent the adapter back and bought this instead, as recommended by ajsimmo. Really nice and simple to use with five memory presets, warning beeps and flashing lights, and a torque range of 11-135nm. A great bit of kit.
About the same price as a new set of cylinder head nuts. So a win win outcome.
