So, thanks for all the advice - here's how it went. Took out the water pipe that runs across the block, then the oil filler tube. Both needed a wipe down and some Rustoleum so not so bad. I owe a pint to whoever said on another thread to get the bottom nut off with a socket on an Allen key because of the room. Then I went with a left handed bit, no dice. Tried an easy out but could feel it twisting against the pressure so stepped away before I snapped it. Put my big boy trousers on and drilled, tapped and helicoiled it, not the most precise of jobs but it holds. I've never done one before and in such a tight space I wouldn't recommend it. Removed the other stud and replaced the two with Brickwerks studs. Now I've got to get it all back again. At least the water pipe and oil filler will get gaskets, no sign of them when I removed the pipes.

All the while I've been doing this I've not been thinking about the stresses of my real job, bills, or having to renew the mortgage so totally worth it. They could sell these vans as therapy pets
