This morning I went back up to have a look at van.

Managed to suck fuel up, but still nothing when I pressed the pump. Thats knackerd I presume.

So I decided to try again on LPG, started and made it the 5 miles home. LPG station is 10 miles down the road, not sure if I should chance it...so will wait to fit electric pump when it arrives..

about to do this... there are 2 connections on the fuel switch, do I just transfer them to 85 86 on relay... sorry to ask, just want to make sure...

also, can i fix the pump in the engine bay instead of crawling under the van.....

No th pump MUST be next to the tank, the push, not pull… and its not safe in the engine bay either
Yes just transfers the two connections from the shut off solenoid to the relay pins 85 & 86 , it matters not which way round

Connectors arrived from Brickwerks..

Plumped in, ignition on, switch to petrol on LPG controller, clicking noise. presume thats good. Check for leaks. All good.
Turn to start the van, nothing, doesnt even turn over. 12.2v then 10.9 v when I go to crank. FFS.

Only thing I have touched to stop it not cranking is adding wire to relay from alternator.. Nothing straight forward is it...

The fact it drops to 10.9v when you turn the key says it’s not the trigger wire onto the starter , but a bad connection on the high tension cables from battery to starter , or flat battery .
I would hazzard a guess at flat battery as its been stood a few days after repeated attempts to start it previously

makes sense..

Borrowed one of those 6 in 1 halford chargers, so thats charging now, will give that a go..

The fact that there is a voltage drop when turning the key also suggests that the ignition switch is ok??

If no luck with battery charger, will clean up all connections by starter...Starter was only recently reconditioned, and sorted out the bush about 6 months ago so I think I can rule out the starter...

Done it, got there in the end.

Really annoying intermittent cranking, didnt use a charger.. managed to get it turning over, and started on petrol. Then wouldnt turn over again.. How annoying. Took main battery lead off starter and cleaned this up. Turned over ok.

Thanks for the help.

Seperate note, runs like a bag of nails in petrol... wont idle after choke comes off and always stalls. Its fine on lpg..
Any ideas.. or am I asking too much :D

how often do you run it on petrol?
if you dont run it very often the float and jets get gumed up with old nasty petrol and make running rough
i always say run for at least a couple of miles on petrol every tank of lpg if you can, ideally switching over at speed ( cruising speed ) so it changes over and gets chance to clear itself out

is it set up to run on lpg only ? when i was fitting LPG kits i always wanted the engine to run and behave on  petrol nicely before installing LPG , that way you know the carb is good and you can set the lpg up around the petrol settings .

i always advanced  ignition timing to optimise the LPG (to 10degrees) which means having to use super unleaded when on petrol

give the carb a good dose of cleaning .

As previously suggested you need to strip and clean the carb out to start with, the electrical side of things seems ok as it runs fine on LPG.

There's plenty of info in the WIKI on how to carry this out.
