Cheers Steve, :ok
I may be bit of a crank. But lm not a crank person. :rofl
Yet the crank journals look good to my eye. Will post more photos tomorrow.

Might be best to get the crank polished, theres something in my head about using a penny to check the journals.

But either way the Bentley books pretty good at giving all the info.

Yes. Scratch it with a copper penny. Very technical. :D

There are some good vids on youtube about measuring crank journals and bearings.

One mentioned three different points with micrometer at 120 degrees from each other. Then you know ovality etc.
Never done it, and a vid speaks a thousand words

example below - different engine, but same principle I guess.

Hi Andrew,

We hope you and family are well?

Forget about the micrometer, Andrew! Im more interested in cake and coffee :rofl

Im not travelling from Margate to Chic any more. My sister sold her yacht in June. So end of another era.
l may sling a leg over the motorcycle and pop down for a chinwag, though.
I really do appreciate your offer. Yet there is rumour of a meet being organised by Putney at the Fox & Goose near Guildford. Fancy that?

Regards
Stuart

Good luck with the leg irons
Just bought some micrometers for the office including a couple of digital 25-50's, be easy to borrow a 50-75....

I'd nip over and see my very good OL mate and use one of these for measuring stuff:

And they're all calibrated

Used one of these only last Tuesday:

Very much so, thanks.

Im on the hunt for a proper micrometer instead of using a sliding vernier gauge. Yet so far only found what l need on eBay with four day delivery. Getting technical, eh?

But likely all academic because lve decided to give crank, cam and cases to a firm in Kent to vapour clean (cases only) first. Then give me a report on condition of crank, casings and cam, with true nominal readings. I will pass on the conrods too.

From there l can start buying for the rebuild.
I not going to skimp on costs. Yet l do have a budget.

From a kind fellow forum user nearby lve sourced two AMC heads with newly fitted valves (lapped) and springs all ready to go.

If the crank is good will get new bearing shells. Same for cam. I may well get a new set of conrods. Even a new set of SS/MV cylinder liners and pistons. Resell the pistons
and use the DJ pistons. If they are compatible? Checking to see if DJ/MV/SS share same gudgeon pins.

More photos later today.

Regards
Stuart

What a result on those heads :ok

Stesaw linked me to a DJ with one head and one piston missing, so I've left it be for now.
Maybe I should get it and source the rest over time - certainly no rush my end at the moment.

Finding heads not a problem. My old ones will go up for sale at some stage l suspect. A decent used and matching in weight DJ piston is another matter.
