Any news in the pipeline?

Thanks to everyone  for the various suggestions. We decided in the end to simply cut the unwanted kink out of the pipe, rejoin it with some flexible hose and then route it appropriately. Getting them positioned correctly has been a bit of a challenge. It has been a very lengthy project due to lack of time but happily there is now an end in sight.

Exactly what l did when using a syncro pipe on a 2WD van.

Hi, I am curious about the flexible hose you mentioned, how did you get a good seal.

In my case l had a good used coolant pipe with a similar moulded shape. I thinks it the hose from thermostat housing to coolant distributor. Cut to size, it fitted perfectly over the hard plastic pipes and clamped using stainless jubilee clips.



Then used the end collar from the hard coolant.

Interesting, I have a small leak where the plastic feed pipe attaches to the rubber hose before it enters the radiator (that well known problem), I have attached two jubilee clips in that area to try and secure the leak but it still leaks, so always looking for a get around.

I also cut both return and flow pipes for ease of fitting over the fuel tank. I used a stainless steel insert cut from an old curtain pole. Again a perfect fit inside the hard coolant pipe. In about 60mm each side and used a general build exterior mastic to glue it in place. Then bought a length of flexible 38mm I/D coolant pipe off eBay for 8 quid delivered.

Note stainless spacer in white (NOS l've been trying to sell for years!) pipe.

That's because it has likely got a corroded end piece like the old ones on my camper. See below. Try adding a clip to the rubber hose just before the hard pipe. It pinches the rubber pipe over the end and often fixes the leak.

Thanks, excellent tip, I placed my jubilee clips over the rubber where it made contact with the plastic pipe. I will try your remedy next. Hopefully others reading this post will also pick up on it.

Just to be clear, TONY, keep the two clips at insert end and add a third to the rubber hose as mentioned above.

I found mine also leaked there for similar reasons above.
Also though, that joint seemed to be carrying weight, so it bowed down slightly - which didn't help.

If you aren't changing the pipes front to back, maybe try some brackets to hold the pipes up so the weight isn't carried by that particular joint.

( I didn't do this, I just changed them, but I think that might have helped to buy me time. )

There should be two large U clips holding both solid pipes up against chassis. One in front of fuel tank. I think another behind fuel tank?

I didn't have them. The odd cable tie was holding it all up

Understand, otherwise placing an extra clip where you mentioned without retaining the others could pull the pipe/hose off
