I cannot see any future in these vehicles, after reading responses and then doing some research as a result of the conversations, I honestly think we are setting our selves up for a disappointing future in the UK with these vehicles.  Hotter countries with more sunshine may benefit where you can have a solar panel as part of the vehicles structure trickle charging the batteries, but no hope here.  Build them here yes, but mainly for export.

Electric motors are around 75% efficient modern petrol engines are 50% efficient.
People do not like change but the figures stand.
Even if we change the fuel IC engines are less efficient.

I hope that when heavy industry like shipping & road haulage make the change to hydrogen, the infrastructure to support that will become available to consumer-level too. If/when that will happen, however, I have no idea.  Pure electric just doesn't have a sustainable future. 

The system is already up and running London transport use hydrogen powered buses.
It's still electric motors though it's just a fuel cell producing the electricity with battery back up.

Yes, sorry, I should have been more clear: Fuel cells powering electric motors.  

I'm a big fan of those busses, wish they'd replace more of the ancient diesel busses with them. Also: trains!

I bet Arrival has an electric motor home/camper cooking, if not direct, there are plenty of 3rd party converters who will do it.

I saw a T2 camper parked next to a local charging point yesterday. I thought that this was a selfish act. Then I saw that it was plugged in. I assume that the engine and gearbox have been removed. I must find out what mods have been carried out. The camper is called 'Olive'.

There's a French couple who have converted their T25 to be electric using old Tesla parts.  Pretty neat.  I think when the time comes, this'll have to be the route that we all take if we want to keep hold of our beloved boxes-on-wheels.

Don't US electric built cars require a 110v charging point, in which case would they find it even more difficult outside of the US to recharge.

Most of the vintage conversions I've seen online retain the gearbox, and use a custom adaptor plate to interface the motor to the existing drivetrain.

Probably also means the end of the Caravan, as electric vehicles need to be certified by the manufacturer to tow another vehicle, it would also limit the mileage even more and most electric vehicles do not have enough torque to tow anything heavier than an empty trailer, lots more to think about when buying one I think.

It's probably running out of power instead of overheating that will have this ending up on the back of a truck.

Of course all these promotion and adverts are filmed during the day.  Breakdown cover includes night time fortunately for them.
