Don't earth it, while you only need it for a couple of months you don't want to kill the engine if it is really low.
A good working DG is worth 500 quid so you want to preserve it, change oil pump before fitting the DJ is the right thing to do so you know it's got good pressure before removing it.
Get some 20W50 in it and as said a grey switch if you don't have one.

All good advice - I’ll take it out for a thrash around tomorrow and see what happens.
I must have a grey switch kicking around somewhere and will get myself some 20/50.
Need to test the holding power of my replacement clip in the thermostat housing anyway...,

Took the shed for a good old drive around yesterday- all seems to be good.
Oil pressure gauge is definitely lower than ideal but DOPWS didn’t sound and it drove as well as could be hoped (when you’ve removed a DJ and put in a DG)
After the tests earlier in the week I’m happy that DOPWS is functioning correctly and the pressure isn’t quite low enough to trigger it.
As I said, it only needs to get me through the next six weeks so all is good.
Thanks for the help
