No it's not original, it's aftermarket.
I suggest you read up on what it does / can do on the Clifford website.
It could just be a replacement remote door opener, but why, unless someone lost all their keys, and how has it been hooked into the VW system. Maybe there's a secondary immo built into it as well. Maybe the original IMMO was disabled, but that bypass has now failed.
This is one of the many reasons I stick to standard, at least when you have a problem you know how it should work.
Did you do the rescan I suggested ?

You can read what the codes mean on the Ross tech website, eg:
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... 602/005634
So that code has returned, which indicates low battery voltage. That doesn't make sense if the car is starting, but then dies when the ignition key returns to the run position.
The IMMO code has not returned, so it's reasonable to assume the key and IMMO handshake is working OK. BUT, I bought a Polo with starting problems, it had been to a reputable auto electrician as well. It turned out the alternator was at fault and the battery voltage was being pulled down. Easy fix, cheap car, could have been a nightmare.
Have you been on the UK Polos website and searched for similar issues and by code ?
There's also ClubPolo and ClubLupo - you will be better off accessing more collective brainpower and knowledge than just me.
