44 years as a mechanical engineer am I supposed to be impressed? that doesn't mean you know anything about fuel delivery in vehicles.

Diesel isn't petrol is it? you can't compare the two.

well you can if its just a pipe in a hot environment. VW fitted it on the front to back pipes on petrol didnt they? Personally id rather use 100% ethanol rubber hose and be done with it. But id rather use the poly stuff than copper pipe.

diesels run much cooler than petrol.

Diesel takes some work to get it to ignite, petrol doesn't.

Personally I would not design or modify anything without a really good understanding of what I'm doing, I see loads of modified vehicles and some may well be death traps because people think they know what they are doing but have missed so many technical details.

The electric fuel pump mod is a classic bodged by so many who pay no attention to the systems fitted to vehicles to make them fail safe.

Not sure whether to risk my tuppence worth here, but IMHO hose marked R9 isn't up to the job any more. A lot of it isn't what it says it is, there's a lot of knock off rubbish printed R9 (and other fake spec markings), which fails within months. That is one factor that's increased the number of classic car fires (it's not just VWs).

I now only use the Brickwerks stuff, as it's 100% ethanol proof and reliably traceable. Or just buy the fuel feed kit ready made and you're done. Saves fannying around with the polyamide, inserts, cutting hoses to length, sleeving, clips etc.

And you needn't worry about 200°C temps in your engine bay affecting fuel hoses, as if it reaches that you're already on fire!

I gave up crisps chocolate and cake ( the three C's) about 5 years ago and i don't miss them so I guess after time you don't miss alcohol?

I don't miss it at all now but what I do miss is going to the pub for beers, fags and conversation. Bit boring just going for a chat without the others. I could have managed without the beer but no fags has completely put the lid on that.

I'm not sure that's the right thing to check - unless I'm reading it incorrectly, the SAE hose spec for R14 still seems to suggest that higher permeation rates would be likely for concentrations of ethanol above 5% - see on page 8 of the above linked PDF.

The Brickwerks hose is good upto 100% ethanol concentration:
