I use Silicone spray on my Holdsworth roof catches and pivot points etc. I find it better than standard WD40.

WD40 dispels water, but despite its claims is not much use as a lubricant, and useless on things like rusted bolts. I use GT85 (teflon additive) or Plusgas to persuade stuck items but 3-in1 oil, silicone spray or grease is best for general maintenance. WD40 is more reliant on its branding for sales. I stopped using it many years ago. It soon dries out.

That said, WD40 is often the only thing on offer in some garages. The best penetrating fluid (by far) is 'Scaffeze' but its only available in big drums so expensive. Can see why though - its incredible stuff. Even the most stubborn items quickly yield under its spell. It also busts through that crud you can sometimes get on diesel engines.

When I got my first decent mountain bike years ago from a specialist shop , they said have I got some essential lubricant for it. I said have some WD40, with the counter assistant looked horrified, he said never used WD40 for your pride and joy, you need GT85, have to say it was decent stuff.

WD40 do a dedicated penetrant and its suprisingly good.

I have used that (Specialist) range as well, the smart straw is a good design, as you know what's it like with the usual detachable straw, you elastic band it or whatever, then place it in the shed and the straw always goes missing for the next time!
