Thanks A LOT. I really need to get an beginners guide to electrics.
I've fitted 35mm from battery to a new junction box under the dreivers seat. From there I ran the 16mm cable to another new junction box I fitted behind passenger side headlight and ran relay kit from that. The headlights look pretty bright-I couldn't look straight at them so I think jobs a goodun, just need to wait for darkness. I also found that the original cables to dash (together - bottom right of your pic) were not pushed in properly which might have been causing resistance.

Been a useful exercise, finding those two loose cables and the battery earth wasn't tight enough either. Are the two red wires at the bottom right of Big Herbs photo the two wires that would be attached to a new fitted junction box under dash if I get enough 16mm cable to move it .

Should have given Syncroandy his due. Think the way I've done it is just as good though.

If round headlights, lose the Hella ones. I say this a lot but compared to modern headlights they're not much better than a 1970s torch reflector. Modern computer-designed reflectors are the way to go. Look in the Defender section of
https://www.powerfuluk.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for 7" headlights.
Good choice:
https://www.powerfuluk.com/vehicles/lan ... e-rhd.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - £37 for TWO
Some adaptation for the mounting but not a lot. Brickwerks also sell retaining rings if you want to make the job dead easy.

If square, you have to live with it for now, but it'll still be better than what you had

Squares on. Thinking about it, the new dash cable only goes to relay upgrade. So I can still put dips on new thicker cable. Any one know what colour wire provides power to dips. As99% of my nigh driving is on dips it makes sense to get the most out of them

Thanks. Will they need fuses If I attach them to the new power cable. I'm assuming they won't need relays?
