Mig welding isnt really difficult i think learning how to prepare the rotton area for repair and a bit of fabrication knowledge will go a long away .

Don’t get me wrong, being scared about it is what occupies my thoughts if I can’t sleep! But what’s the worst that can happen? My van, which is probably worth sod all in it’s current condition, ends up being worth sod all? And I’ll have learnt more about van so the next one I get (if I’m allowed...) works out better.
But I’m an optimist. Everything is copacetic...

Agree, mig welding isn't that difficult with practice, it's good working on your van getting rid of rot and adding new metal. Also good to keep these old buses on the road,.

Quick update van people...The van failed it's MOT
But surprisingly not on any of the rust/body work! Only on the brake light being on on the dash! Never been so happy with an MOT fail
Came back with a few advisories (body work included), but nothing that can't sorted when the weather is a bit nicer
The MOT guy said the brake light (which is the same light that comes on when the handbrake is on?) should go off if i top up the brake fluid.
He said he would have topped it up, but couldn't find where to add it?
This light has only just started to come on as well? So basically it almost passed it's MOT!
Can anyone tell me:
A. Where he brake fluid top up nossle is?
B. A good brake fluid type for these Vans (I will get some tomorrow!)
C. If they agree with the MOT guys diagnosis?

A.Take dash binnacle off you will find the fluid reservoir under there.
B.DOT 4 spec brake fluid.

Well that's a bit of a success then
As Rob has said, brake fluid reservoir is under the dash. It can be a bit fiddly to remove, press and unclip at the back, pull forward. Don't get too hamfi.sted or you'll break it.
I don;t know if there's a how to anywhere. This youtube video isn't that helpful

The light is a multi function light, it warns for when brake fluid is low, hydraulic circuit failure and handbrake on.
Probably low fluid, if not check the switch on the handbrake.
Is this a new problem, or has it been like this for a while ?
Had to E D I T as the word beginning with ham failed the word censor; ham "interfered with" indeed

Cheers carrera, definitely a success! Considering the last "specialist" mechanic said the whole rear end needed to be removed in order for it to pass it's MOT! Feckin joker. Won't visiting him again any time soon.
I was just watching that go westy video

Will get some fluid and have a fiddle tomorrow.
This is a new problem. But as i have just had my rear brakes done by "the specialist" it could be linked??

Rear brakes done, brakes bled, fluid not topped up, possible scenario, but a garage should have picked up on the brake warning light before handing back to you.
Make sure there isn't a leak from the bleed nipples or the bottom of the drum. You can top it up to get the MOT, but if there's a leak you'll have the problem recur in a way you might not want.

Good point, not sure it answers my question though

Think i spotted the screen wash under the hatch by the rear number plate? Did i get that right lol?
Lol, seems like the swing arms are doing ok though, was worried about those.

Drove nearly 100+ miles before the warning light started staying on. Will check the drums, are the bleed nipples easy to spot?

I'll let Rob tell you about the screen wash, it was his idea after all
Given you drove 100 miles, I'd guess that the fluid wasn't topped up and brakes have bedded in dropping the level in the reservoir.
Bleed nipples are at the rear of the drum at the top next to the brake pipe. Easy to inspect, you'll need a light to assist.

You don't want to be putting screenwash in there fella.That's your coolant reserve/Header tank.It should be filled to between the level marks.Look under your front passenger side floor mat
