Mine looked worse than that when i took them off yet they only very occasionally knocked, bushes were hanging !

Might be worth replacing the upper ball joints while you're in there with it apart? At least you know that way that the 'top end' is all ok

Thanks for the tip but I'm not doing any more than is needed, got to concentrate on broken bits before preventative maintenance, got to do disc back plates too at some point but that can wait a bit longer.

Bushes ordered from Brickwerks 7.30 am, got delivery confirmation from UPS at 10.05, delivery tomorrow


Got old bushes out tonight both sides.

Ground spot weld off, slice of tube cut and reduced in diameter, in vice and pressed them out as far as they would go (needed a bit of tube on vice t bar), then beat out the last bit.

New Bushes arrived today from Brickwerks at 11 am 27.5 hours, not to shabby

Pushed them in with a vice and a bit of tube.

Spotweld tonight on each bush and a lick of paint ( gave them a wire brush and vactan last night). Raining so might just leave it there tonight and fit tomorrow, give paint a chance to dry.

Nice bit of kit this protractor, wishbones refitted, marked bolt with line, flats on bolts vertical and aligned by eye, tightened to 75Nm, van level, checked wheels and they are pretty close. Will check again after driving.

I found this thread while reading up on my current job, interesting stuff.

I've just finished mine today, using the lemfjorder bushes from bw. Used the Simon Baxter club hammer method to ash them out once the spotvweld was gone, then used my friendly neighbour's 40 tonne press to get the new ones in. Did my first welding too to remake the spots, which looked attrocious but should be adequate.

I don't trust my torque wrench at all, but 75nm is v tight, right? I did it by feel, before attaching the wishbone to the knuckle, so I could feel how stiff the movement was. Did it so it hinged without looseness, but don't think it's tight enough. Any danger with crushing these if I'm using say a foot long wrench??

I would not go tighter than 75Nm but I would check after say 500 miles
mine came loose and mot man tightened, I suspect it was because I painted washers ans wishbones and paint wears/shifts and then it comes loose.
