is the flange mount upside down in that pic?
Does the flange part sit on top of the wood and the sides sit in a rectangular hole cut in the wood?
Just trying to picture how it fits.

Yes -upside down, hole cut through wood and metal and the sides protrude underneath, sealed and fixed down with polyurethane sealant/adhesive.

Cheers. looks like a good way to do it, will certainly keep the heat off the wood.
