Got it through CVC from Gowesty.Cant remember the price,it wasn't cheap but starting the van was spot on.Try contacting CVC for a price.I seem to remember a link to a UK company that did them but my memory is rubbish.Try googling Hi torque starter it may come up with summat.

have you tried fidling with the gear stick when it clicks? Being an auto i would think there will be a switch to say "im in park or neutral " so its fine to start. The switch may be saying i wont start as im in d for drive.lol

whe it does turn over does it wizz round or is it lazy?

Neither starter ever really whizzed. The gear selector switch is a good idea. I did have a look at it and clean it up before when my reverse lights weren't working. I do remember noticing there was an occasional spark but I'd forgotten til you mentioned it

have you found it clicks when its cold and damp weather or does it do it when its hot or just randomly ?

Does it have an exciter wire going to the back of the starter motor (for an auto)? If so check the wire going into the spade connection and make sure the spade connector to stater motor is tight. Might be worth rubbing the connectors with some fine sand paper too.

I'll check for an exciter wire, from memory I've only got one on the alternator but I'll double check

Is your battery in the engine bay IF? Oh as an earth. I've already ordered the 25mm cable-will that be sufficient?
Thanks for the link to the starter if all else fails I'll go for it, although it has been said that refurbish the original is better than buying new?

E D I T: As is the way with me and this old van I've been chasing my tail.

The first thing I did this morning was check the power cable then the red and black wire from the ignition and all were getting power. Put new lugs on if the old ones looked at all corroded Then I bench tested the starter motor and it span fine. I'd still got my old one an that span fine as well.
Tested the red and black lead again, this time I got 0v, 3v and briefly 11.6v so I think like the problem lies at the ignition end. Hotwiring it the starter turns every time

Update: After all that I fitted another new ignition switch and so far it has worked every time, starter spinning properly, fingers crossed for the future. I can't understand why I'm going through so many switches?

Is it possible that the barrel is duff meaning that the switch doesn't make proper contact when the key's turned?
On the plus side I can now swap an ignition switch in about 25mins. Starts immediately on LPG first thing in the morning, it's never done that.
