I'm thinking I might dismantle the one I have here and get a good `feel` for the Pierburg.
Gonna end up stripping them whatever I think

Yes while you wait fix the choke flap on old one. I have some pics if needed.

Sounds exactly like the issue I had earlier in the year: /viewtopic.php?f=37&t=153564&start=45#p8148904

As itchy says it'll be the locking lever / U bracket.

Thanks all.

I will check the U bracket when I can get back there.
Also spoke to CJH who still has some of the manufactured replacement plastic bits that break - he's send ing some through for me ( top man ).

Combined with the two Brickwerks refurb kits which are also on their way, I should be able to rectify the issues on both carbs now, to give me a good one on the van and a good spare.

Progress updates to follow when it all turns up.!!

Had a mosey tonight at the carb with no choke function.
Aside from the flap being missing, this was broke:

Then there was the fact there was no gasket between the two halves...:

Plenty of debris inside the float chamber too

Just waiting on some parts through the post to make a start.

Are you saying that carb was running with no gasket

Don't forget to buy carb cleaner

Had a think after this post - I reckon it did have one - I think garage has opened it up already to see how it works with the aim of fixing the high revs on the replacement...

Reason I think that?
Idle cut off valve is missing on this one, plus there were only 3 screws holding the two halves together when I seperated them.
Looking at old pics I posted when I originally fitted it, there were definitely 4 screws back last winter ( and I didn't remove them )

Either way, I have a plan of action now.

I have a question though:

Seeing that the faulty choke aspect is on the top half, and the fault on the second carb is with the bottom half, can I just use the two good halves to make a working carb?

This one is of the `H` variety, not sure what the other one is yet though. If different, will mixing the two halves of two different carb models give me an issue?

:ok

I will do that to get me up and running though first, then use CJH bits to get a working spare me thinks

And can I mix and match `H` carb halves with earlier ones?
( Not sure what type is on the van yet )

jets are tiny bit different but are all in top so can't see why not but worth a good visual check for differences in the bottom half.

Cheers Kev.

Do you have any choke flaps and spindles?
The one here has no flap, and the spindle has been bent - plus it has stripped threads in it.

I suspect PO tried to bend the spindle first to stop it flapping around after the cam broke.

I have managed to straighten it but with the threads stripped there is little point.
If you only have those items as part of a half of a carb, then I may consider buying that if needed.
( Mine is H series carb )
