Auto lights are fine, but they only see light or dark, not fog!

I'm constantly moaning at modern car drivers to put their lights/fog lights on.

I'm constantly moaning at people to turn their fog lights off.
Where I commute we only have fog that warrants fog lights once every 10 years.
When you are driving in heavy traffic on motorways and around town, if you can see many cars infront they are pointless, actually counter productive because you see brake lights less well.

in fact 90% of people get it it's just a few that don't

Fog lights are for empty roads and pea soupers imo

I don't entirely disagree, (and definitely agree about turning them off again) however in fog regardless of area, fog lights on.

You have an accident and explain why it was foggy but you didn't have your fog lights on & see how far you get.

Note - this does not mean that when its raining on a motorway they should be on - morons.

So mist is ok just fog then?
it's not black and white, common sense prevails.

Most of us don't dazzle people in heavy traffic just to cover themselves in the event of an accident.

Do what ever YOU think is right.

Highway code rule 226, headights must, fog lights may.....

The Qashqai we have has auto everything including brakes...But the lights catch me out if they get put on manual. It has permanent LED running lights on that are nearly as bright as my campervans headlight as I can testify driving to Tesco with just the running lights

How hard would it be for a car to have a real time clock with date and coupled with a gps ( many have) to know lattitude it can be programmed to know when it's dark Lights come on you can't turn them off even in a well lit area.

Perhaps it would be easier to fit a annoying alarm

On my T25 I have never had to change a headlight bulb in seven years of ownership and yes they still work. In my 2007 car I have to change each front bulb at least once a year with Osram bulbs. At least I can replace them in a few minutes now compared to the half hour it took the first time. I know the bulbs have gone as spend a lot of time in traffic looking at my reflection in the car in front.

Must be something with the higher voltages put out by modern alternators putting more stress on the filament and my T25 still has the unmodified wiring and dim lights

I've seen one of these and like the idea, though I wonder about it's legality.

It's not a barrier, merely a mark that psychologically might deter it.
