thanks for the link. I always try to source parts from Brickwerks and I will be getting all of the fuel system parts like tank, breathers, etc etc from them.

Hello,

For the poly bush...

I don't think the one linked is the right one..

When I did this job a while back I got the part 251 711 207 D

Image

However, when it came to fitting.. it was obviously far too large in diameter..

As a provisional fix I used PER plastic pipe over the shaft.. better.. but not as good as fitting the right bit

Genuine VW 251 711 207

which stops the noise completely.. :)

While the tank is down.. it is an ideal time to replace the throttle cable and clean out the crumbly foam from inside the big heater tube..

Change all the rubber collars and hoses for new..

Fitting a new sender is not going to make the gauge any more accurate..

Oh.. and either do the job over a pit or on a ramp.. easiest.. otherwise you will have to raise the van high enough on jacks to get the tank restraining straps to 'swing 'off.

Hope this helps..

Cordialement,

:ok

You might find someone who has converted their DF engine to DG, and has their old dizzy kicking around redundant now. Take the hall sender and vac can off that and transplant onto your CU unit to fix it.

Well done that man.. :)

On my 80 Aircooled I am going to drop the tank (again) as part of a project to 'blend' an eberspacher into the heating system..

and I'll see whether it is possible to persuade the bush into its housing before removing the tank..

probably a struggle..but a quick fix maybe.. :?:

Cordialement,

The engine starts and idles ok, but at idle the engine speed rises and falls in a sort of rhythm.

The fuel system is up for complete replacement as the old tank is cruddy and the fuel filter keeps crudding up.

The fuel filler pipe is a plastic one, the van is a 1980 Devon, so assume the plastic was a replacement.

Brickwerks sell a good quality late tank so we are thinking of going for that. Are there any issues we may have fitting a later tank.

The solex pdsit carbs are old and not been touched by us and I have 2 refurbed ones to fit.
Weak hunting... (long period rhythmic rise & fall) check for air leaks in intake manifolding, butterfly spindle worn etc
Or idle fuel set too low...

Or yo

Thanks for your input so far. I have ordered a new tank and several other parts and that bush from Brickwerks as suggested.

I am thinking it may be best if we replace the entire fuel system first before looking for electrics issues.

My son mistakenly put some diesel in the tank which clearly stirred up the crud in the tank and caused issues with the filter and carbs.

I have 2 pdsit carbs which I sourced off ebay in good condition, which I have taken apart and cleaned up and replaced some parts. Our plan is to take the old carbs off and refurb them during the winter and put the 'new ones' on.
