To clean up the corrosion on the edge connectors try one of these:

Gently remove the oxidation and get nice clean copper again.

technically it would be a fail as mot checklist was revised to include tell-tale main beam light. however, you can wire in a light direct from main beam circuit just to get it through, or a popup flag or whatever as long as its clear that you're on main from inside the cab.

I believe the blue bulb has blown, and so I'll likely just order the replacement bulb and swap it. I'm tired of faffing with the cluster, and now it all works i don't really want to meddle too much more. Month of Sundays is what i need!

Better to trace the blue tell-tale circuit and fit something like a 390ohm (or slightly larger) resistor so you can use an LED instead of a blub. Remember VW used a bulb because blue or white LEDs hadn't been invented back then. Don't buy a high-brightness one though or ideally get one that will fit original plastic cap over bulb.

Tadaa!
Finally all done and dusted. Got the rev counter working with the ej20, and fixed the blue light with a new one from bw. Also vowed never to mess with that blue ribbon ever again!
I'm.on white LEDs for the dash lights and like the look so drawing a line under this one.
My old cluster and clocks are for sale or give away in the classifieds. Onwards!
