Just a bump for the above question- does anyone know where to track down and trace the +ve feed for the gearbox switch?

For a diesel van the reversing light feed should be the 10A fuse at slot 15 in the front fusebox.

Thanks cliff. It's an early van, and shares fuse 12 with the horn, which works... I think next I'll run a long fly lead from fuse box to switch to isolate it and be sure. I'll drop the fusebox out and have a good look through

Gahh this has beaten me

Should have been simple, but I just can't find a 12v feed that will light the bulbs!

I jump the gear box switch so I should have a permanent 12v to the the junction box. Front fuses are fine, I've had the main fuse box down and checked it over there, ignition live 12v check on fuse 12 (early model).

I can light the reverse bulbs by jumping from the live post in the junction box to the black fuse holder (seen in pic here), so I know the rear wiring is fine.



Is this red wire coming into my reverse light wire correct? Can't get any volts to it though anyway I suspect this is incorrect? Blue/black should be reverse lights I thought..

Gauls me to put it into the garage for what should be an easy fix

Has anyone got any images of an early model junction box that'll give me some clues?

The reverse lights should be connected to the ignition switched live. Either it runs as a black/blue wire to the fuse box or connected to the black ignition wire in the black engine bay box.

thanks herb - so definitely NOT connected to the red, as in my picture? any ideas what that red is then?


i dont have an unconnected black plug left in the box.. im looking for an image of an EARLY junction box to compare, all ive found are ones of late model boxes, with the two round white multiplugs.

Looking at you picture the yellow connectors work as link and spur which looks like it connects between the black wire yellow connector at the top of the photo.
Do a better picture with the whole box in view.

a haa.. ok see what you mean. the mid way spur on the black/blue wire had me wondering what that was for. ill try get a better picture tonight. its a subaru conversion, so theres a big inlet pipe in the way. there may be a chance that the red is now unnused.. still need to identify that one.

FIXED!
After you said it takes an ignition switched 12v, rather than being fed through the gearbox reverse switch, my 'own light bulb' went off and it made sense.

The 2 yellow connectors on the blue black reverse fused lead are as you said to tap into that ignition switched feed. A 2 minute fix last night! I've spent a few wasted hours poking around underneath and prodding with the multimeter :-\ the forum strikes again and you learn something every day
