No worries, I'll carry on investigating. Read the wiki but that is all about the light flashing, nothing about the light failing to flash! Wonder if the previous owner removed the electronic module to disguise the Horlicks in the engine bay, cos it had chronically low coolant when I bought it due to loads of leaks and no top up tank. Nothing would surprise me...

Popped out at lunchtime to look - relay 43 was in position 4. Not where it should be in position 3, and I don't recall the back of the relay board being in too much of a mess as to indicate that the wiring has been swapped over.

And then it started to rain heavily and I have to go back to work, so will test tonight if I'm lucky.

At least the rain will keep them midges down for a little while. Could do with some rain down here.
My favourite part of the country up there, Balnakiel and all down the West coast.

The west coast is a substantial day trip away, but very lovely I agree. We're much further east but by the sea so few midges anyway, the landscape and light here are so different - flat flat moorland and massive skies. Beyond the highlands really. Used to live further inland in Caithness, and sitting outside on the occasional nice evening was just a nightmare.

Well, with relay 43 in position 3, I still get no flashing light when the sensor is disconnected. Does that mean a dead relay? (Although I know it's not really a relay...)

I had a relay 43 that failed to flash when coolant sensor disconnected, the gauge still did it's flashing on start up thing. The relay I'm using now gave intermittent low coolant warnings until I opened it up and resoldered the connections onto the pcb, might be worth a try.

Seems a fair enough idea, thanks. I've got nothing to lose I guess as it's banjaxed anyway. I'll check the connections on the back of the relay board first tho.
