Thanks I will ask them to do this, I heard him on the phone to his boss discussing it, a sign that they care.

That's a bit of a sweeping statement at best, generally tarnishing all the staff of one particular company.

Big herb where on the rubber does the sealant go, right on the outside edge or further in.

IF the window frame looks in really good nick, I had a pinhole and some fairly surface further down. Had to rush the repair though so I miight do it again myself.

Be warned the fitter broke my old screen getting it out, he said it was common, I guess the safest way to remove is to cut the seal but I'm not sure where you would cut it.

Go in with a new Stanley knife blade and find the edge of the glass then cut along the glass edge , start from the top to prevent it slipping out . Oooo errrrrr

Wow! Don't worry; I'm sure I haven't affected the share price too much, of this Multi-Billion pound corporation (Belron) after my personal experience reference.

Looking at my old seal the depth of the glass recess is probably pretty much the edge of glass and it's a bit outside the ridge.
Other seals may be a bit different I suppose but probably about right.

Cut through on A pillar , put a thin piece of plastic under rubber to prevent cutting into paintwork/glass. Cut across horizontally then peel off outside half of seal leaving other half in place holding windscreen in .

I'm wondering if this is why these vans leak, this is glue from the headlining presumably badly applied in the factory and all along the top sealing surface.



Having cleaned up the frame with T-cut I'm indeed very lucky ( and happy), only a few surface spots.

No, water gets in because as the seal ages, it buckles slightly at outer thinner edge (particularly at the top) and water can make its way in. There only needs to be a tiny gap. It doesn't actually get far into the seal but once in, it works its way down, partly by capillary action until it only has the bottom corners to sit in where it gradually rots the metal away. You run a thin bead of sealant under the lip so it seals thinner wedge all the way around. Clean off excess accordingly.

Anyone who thinks a sealant isn't required needs to change the seals on a few 30 year old T25 to understand why sealant is indeed needed. It was fine on a bug with a relatively small windscreen, but the bigger v-dubs are best sealed - if you want to keep the water out that is.

How many years have I wasted my time with the little wire dremmel brushes?

There was a small pip of metal sticking up so I broke out the little cutting disk and discovered a new world of easily removing rust spots to shiny metal is seconds

bigherb, this sealant they use, I assume it cleans off easily next time the window has to come out?

well done, that looks alreet.

All painted up by Sunday morning and had all day in the baking sun to harden up.

Not a good night last night for a van outside with no windscreen, the Gazebo filled up with several gallons of water but luckily didn't overflow, I syphoned it out.

Pilkington window fitted this afternoon with sealant around the glass inside and out and around the edge to body, National Windows fitter did a great job, took time to centralise it and make sure seal was evenly distributed,looks great, fingers crossed.

Interesting to note he did the four corners first then sides with some of the top and bottom, then finished top and bottom, I guess best way to get it centralised.
