anyone know what a reasonable reading should be?
The 80-90 "wiki" says ->
https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Pe ... ure_survey" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"We" take it you are sing the correct oil? (15/40 or 20/50 both mineral, is the norm)

The only official figure I know is Minumum 2 bar at 2000 rpm with oil at 80deg C ( maybe 85 can't remember)
80 deg C is quite hot, aftera good run, would take quite a while to get up there idling but if you wait until the fan has cut in a couple of times you should be getting close.
if you measure when colder the pressure will be higher.
you can't easily connect an oil pressure guage after a run as the oil squirts out but it is possible.
As you can see mine is out of spec at 2000 rpm, electric guages in cab may not be very accurate either ( pics of both guages taken at same time)

ahhh brillig!
thanks for that gents
15/40 mineral in place -
brought from local tescos!

oil pressure tester on the way -
as in advice given to original poster -
best to test one issue at a time and work through the list to find out what's wrong -
Thanks again

I gave up using an oil pressure gauge about six vehicles ago due to probably unwarranted concern on my part when on tick over in raging hot summer traffic jams.
Before my apparently lucky £900 rebuild by Elite I got about two years out of the engine by fitting a Kenlow oil cooler with a couple of fans switched by a temperature sensor in the cooler feed pipe. This operates independently of the radiator fan.
Incidentally i have a 1600cc frod Kent Xflow in an aluminium ski boat and twice in racing on Windermere did best part of a lap at full bore with no oil due to oil cooler pipe failure without damaging the engine. Didn't spot the gauge reading so fitted a 21 Watt dash warning light after that. The only reason I can give for not running the bearings is my use of Slick Fifty. Been tempted to use it in the T25 but have been put off by traditionalists so far. Any views?

Yes ignorance is bliss sometimes

you can be too worried about oil pressure, this test guage won't be fitted when running, it's just a test to see if the oil pressure is reasonable.

mph -
got my tester today in the post
neilsen oil pressure test kit CT3922 -
weather permitting - will have a go this weekend -
2 things i'm not sure about - which threaded adapter to fit? A choice of 10 - Number 8?
and - what the little plastic bag of various O rings are for?
Perhaps we can share notes as we do this thing?

m10x1 adapter is what you need

Remove the blue switch when cold virtually no oil comes out, if you try and do it hot expect a good squirt of oil.
There is an adapter you fit, it has an oring so you do it finger tight, don't tighten too much, then the guage hose has a quick release fitting that snaps on.
run it up to hot and then see what happens at different revs.
Cold measurements are a waster of time, it will be high pressure cold.

Just had oil pressure test gauge used it first time good pressures but not sealed right so eventually got a reading 0.5 bar and 8 psi while running at 3000rpm not looking good !

aieee... not had a chance to do mine yet - hopefully at the end of the week -
when you say 'not sealed right' - did your adapter have an O ring with it?
was your engine properly warmed up when you took the reading?

Dunno what you mean ?
Check your oil pressure relief valve hasn't got something stuck in it and is assembled correctly with flat of piston upwards and spring below it.
Neee to drain oil before removing. Shine a torch up inside to make sure the aperture is clear.

Had the engine running for around 10mins checked pressures at 3500rpm reading was 24psi 1.6 bar then when returned to tick over dropped to 8 psi 0.5 bar I've checked the pressure relief valve cleaned and put back in with crush washer. This has raised the pressures slightly at 3500 rpm. Not taken it out in a run yet! Is there anything else I could look at thanks Martyn. Cold was 56psi.and 3.8bar
