I tow boats behind my 2.1 DJ Waterboxer High Top and the Vintage alloy ski boat with the 1600cc crossflow kills it on the hills while the fibreglass day cruiser can get blown nearly to a standstill in a strong headwind. However when in trouble whizzing up and down the gears at between 3 and 4 thousand RPM gets me by without too much embarrassment. Once rolling I just have to anticipate problems and on no account slow down for those A/H's who try to barge out onto the motorway from the slip roads. I have been subjected to some very bad language in these circumstances. I think a 1.6 Diesel would just be too stressful for me but if you pays you road tax etc and can put up with the odd "Caravan Que Syndrome" good luck to you.

Two for the price of one! What happened there then?

If the long term plan is to replace it anyway all you will be doing is bringing the inevitable forward a bit :run

It's the way you tell em! :rofl

You're off to Holland again, but there must be hills on the way to the ferry. Have you tried dragging the shed up Cat Hill yet? That would give you a feel for performance before going on a long journey. Better to do this now. If it struggles, then it might be better to tow with your car. Just a thought.

Stag Hill would be the test - cant do it for a few weeks but yes that's a good plan.

..and less of the shed comments ! :run

Sorry about that I guess lack of attention to detail is one of my less pleasant attributes.

Just grasp the nettle now and fit a 1Y. It'll tow that little thing no problem. My wife's van is a 1Y tintop, and towed a mk3 golf on a twin axle trailer from Newcastle to Grantham at 50-60mph without any trouble. Also towed our camping trailer around the North Coast 500 last year, didn't even know it was there!

Chase Road by the White Hart would provide a good test of pulling power. I predict 10mph max by the time you get up to the mini-roundabout!

I'm happy to give it a test run (in a few weeks) you're welcome to come along for the ride - or my support team :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Many thanks for the great chat with Andrew from Campershack regarding engine conversions - watch this space !

I'll give that a miss unless I'm in the area visiting family. Let me know and I will try to co-ordinate this. Sundays are best. I suggest that you warn the local plod in advance so they can close the road off for this experiment. :)
