If it's a plug/socket with the ignition off disconnect them and squirt a tiny bit of WD into both sides, dry with a clean rag and reconnect.

Have you thought of having the van properly looked over by Si from T3volution ... he's a fine chap, well-known and highly recommended as one of Ye Olde time members. :ok Getting everything up to a standard should leave you free to run the thing and enjoy it without the constant fear of walking home  I'll dig out his members number so's you can drop him a PM :ok

Thanks Ian, much appreciated.
I would ideally love the van to be looked over, just so, like you said I can actually enjoy it :)

Have you tried this chap for your fuel line:

This kit worked well for me, I'd buy it again.

Thanks Smosh and 300CE - I contacted them a few months back but they couldnt offer me the kit I needed for my van, they said if I measured all the lines and gave them the correct ones they could make one up. But I have no means of doing this (can't raise the van as have no off road space). I could try them again.

Well after as much tinkering that I was capable and able to do, the van is now in the garage as I type this. From what I described to the mechanic, he seemed to suggest it was a throttle problem. As I drove it to the garage, it was almost as if when I put my foot down on the gas, it was holding back and bit, then it would shoot in to action suddenly, and then resist again.
Anyway, Ill let you know what he says. Really wanted to say thanks for all the suggestions and help. I know Im not extremely handy when it comes to motor mechanics, but I do try where I can with the resources I have (which are very few!).
I realise that mostly I;ll have to take it in to be seen, but I'm learning bit by bit :)

Really ? Still sounds like it's very much fuel-related to me. :|

Now if it was a modern car with a fly by wire accelerator then maybe it could be that ... not on a 26 year old camper though.

I'm with Ian here, doesn't sound like a throttle problem - other possibles could be coil breaking down (is it ok when the van is cold but gets worse the warmer it gets?), vacuum advance, air leak from the hose from vacuum advance to carb or a sticking base plate in the distributor.

Keep us informed on what the mechanic says.

E D I T: Just seen that you have a 2.1 injection!! I must take more notice.

Could be traces of water coming through from petrol tank? Perhaps have your garage check breather hoses/balance pipe/filler neck for splits or come-offness.

So the update is that I got my van back from the garage. The mechanic dismantled the throttle, thoroughly cleaned it and cleaned up the contacts in the engine.
I drove it home and it didnt miss a beat.
Ive yet to take it on a good run though.
