Would it be best to not have the wires to the starter battery connected at all?
Then there can be no way you can leave the switch in the wrong location and drain both batteries.
( I think. )
I will wait to see what others think, i.e. don't take that a Gospel Meggles, until others clarify..!!

Not a bad idea. But of course you'd then have to fit a split charge relay. And if your leisure battery went flat you wouldn't have the option, regardless of how risky it is, of running the camper electrics from the starter battery.

A year later and I have just about rewired the van. Just a couple of niggles which i have posted about but all looks good so far.

In the attached pic at the top right next to the red cable there is a connection which has lost it's wire. It's at the back of the battery condition panel. Can anyone advise where the connection should be wired to please? Many thanks. btw, I've tried to find a diagram for this but not had any luck.
btw, Yes I know the cables need to be pushed a little further into the terminal block. I am going to solder the ends when I get around to it.
