H6 manuals if you don't already have 'em. Removing the engine is section 7 in the 4th one below.
Fuel Injection system
Emissions control
Induction
Mechanical #1
Mechanical #2
Exhaust
Cooling
Lubrication
Throttle
Ignition
Starter & Alt.
Diagnostics #1
Diagnostics #2
The electrics are a job to get out. When building the car the harness seems to be about the first thing they fit so literally everything in the dash area must come out including the heater box.

2.0l n/a manuals from a 2001 Forester. There may be some fitment variations depending on vehicle model and year, but the basic H4 SOHC mechanical stuff 99>04 is pretty universal.

Good luck with the swap! I like reading a good engine swap thread.

Following this! I'm still saving for the Scooby conversion, still not sure whether to go 3l H6 or 2.5l 4, will be interested to see how you get on, and how everything else bolted onto to it stands up - I'm convincing myself that if I go the H6 route I'll just be careful/mechanically sympathetic and avoid giving it all the beans... we'll wait and see!
Argument/discussion start point - Are 6 slightly smaller cylinders gentler on the drive train than 4 larger ones?

Maybe we can lure Richard into this thread I'm sure he'll have a look .. ?

6 or 4cylinder, well I read up on my 5 pot and the pulse load on the transmission is smoother with a 5 than 4 so 6 should be better still.
4cyl fires every 180degrees 360degrees x 2 divided by 4
5cyl fires every 144degrees 360degrees x 2 divided by 5
6cyl fires every 120degrees 360degrees x 2 divided by 6
8cyl fires every 90degrees 360degrees x 2 divided by 8
If my memory serves me correctly!

For the same displacement and rms torque output, the more cylinders the better!
We had a 3-pot marine diesel crank and flywheel in for attention the other day...
Unsurprisingly it had shaken the (massive) flywheel loose!

Well i got it up on ramps and started pulling stuff out so i could see what i was dealing with in terms of the engine itself.
after pulling the rad i got a bit of a scare when the two smaller pipes on the bottom had oil in them!
turns out this is the automatic transmission fluid that is also cooled through the rad.
two inlet hoses at top of rad and one outlet hose below - these will need to be routed round to other side to connect to the t25 rad pipes - no coolant manifold on this engine -
removing the plastic under shield showed an oil leak on the right hand side , looks like its coming from the oil cooler pipes although not 100% sure - red cicrcled area had some sort of spongy sealent round it so perhaps someones tried to stop this before
hopefully not too serious.
exhaust outlet is one per cylinder head which should make fabricating an exhaust easier
the main lump looks bigger than i had imagined it - but if i cut away front of car can probably roll it out on a dolly without an engine hoist!
will get more off tommorow and have a think....

Quick question - is there any reason not to use a 3H 5speed gearbox from a turbo diesel van in this conversion?
5th gear has a ratio of 0.82 and 3639rpm at 70mph using standard tyres
is the input shaft the same on a deisel and is it the box the same overall dimensions?

no reason not to use the 3H, tis the same as ABN the petrol 1.9 box other than the bellhousing and input shaft - diesel input shaft is shorter, check with RJES if you need to change it when using his bellhousing, iirc you don't; use a hybrid clutch with wbx friction plate
if you plan on using an adapter plate you will usually need a petrol bellhousing and input shaft
for the RJES you need a donor petrol bellhousing for the slave bracket and lever arm and fork
