well ive gone and done it - bought a donor vehicle!!!

subaru legacy h6 ez30 automatic

105,000 on the clock but seems to drive nice and smooth and full service history - hopefully will be ok at that

will start a new thread for the build when i start in the new year - just incase anyone interested .....

not yet as depends what i do about a gearbox

options
1. stick with 5 speed vw box and get rjes bellhousing
2. subarugears with reversed pinion and ring - need to get a manual subaru gearbox / flywheel clutch etc. too, so possibly too pricey
3. renault un1 with some sort of adaptor plate to mate to subaru engine. also requires drive shaft modifications

I went for the bell housing route as it was more cost effective short term , iv also went for there spline conversion so I can use the stronger Subaru clutch instead of the weak VW one ,, once the engine is fully in place and working I may end up doing the gearbox conversion but at £1500 in parts alone (plus gearbox and clutch) it's a lot more expensive than the bell housing conversion , I'm happy to swap out a VW box or two if they do give up on me before I get around to doing the box as there far cheaper than a decent Subaru gearbox but the Scooby box will be a lot stronger

The later 5 speed boxes are the stronger ones out of the Subaru 5 speeds ,, for anyone increasing power these boxes normally give up after about 350bhp ,, but you can now buy what they call blast plates that fit on the outside of the box and give the box extra strength , iv now seen them running 400bhp without much problem , so no need for the 6 speed set ups like us Scooby builders lol
