That sounds like recessed valve seats. The valves sit deeper in the head as the seat burns away, therefore the valve tops move out towards the rockers, eventually having no adjustment left. Do you have any pics of the head before fitting? If the valve head is sitting flush (or below) it's had it.

Also are all the pushrods seated properly in the lifters? If not, you'll get this problem.

Thanks for the reply, the valves were certainly not recessed into the head like the in the picture, I did spend a fair bit of time with the grinding paste ensuring no pitting in the seats so would have sparred this. So it sounds like a follower issue? But all 4? How do I go about confirming/ fixing that?
