Hi guys, the steering when ro;lling is not too bad but manoiuvering into a paking space is when it is realy stiff, as some of you have or are experiencing the same problem it must be a general dificulty, however it has been a gradual problem. Perhapse Im getting weak.many thanks anyway.

Thanks for all your comments, I noticed last night that the steering was easier so perhapse fitting the new boot and greasing it is now working through. I checked the tyres this morning and tyre wear is fine not wearing on one side more than the other. I was particularly glad to hear that others have experienced a similar problem and just to let you know this is my seventh camper van, three type two and the rest tpe 3/25. Present van is type 25 1.6 TD 1989.

Must admit, I've got one of these. Makes quick steering a breeze and does help with parking

My van used to have power steering but a previous owner removed it probably due to cost and fitted a manual rack. When I bought the van it had Porsche 17" wheels with low profile tyres and the steering was really heavy.
I changed the wheels for 15" Empi's with 215/70/15 tyres and now both the steering and ride are 100% improved.

My '82 Westy LHD was giving me arms like Popeye. I fitted Power Steering and it has transformed the vehicle.
