Silicone you just buy your lengths from suppliers of hose
Either is cheaper.

where you sourced the silicone and fitting etc etc...I'm expecting the inevitable! My metal ones corroded and were replaced with pre-loved plastic...but the plastics have metal ends too....

I’m going to ask my friendly camper mechanic here in Eastbourne to source the silicone pipes and have a go at fitting them when I finally come of night shifts and return to the land of the living! If he can find any I will let you know where they came from.

As far as selling the van goes I have thought about it often but can’t bring myself to do it just yet. Let’s see how I feel come MOT time

If you are going for front to back heater pipes at the same time ensure you get the correct size & on my 1.9 petrol the engine bay end is molded to fit the larger heater pipe. I would think any local motor factor will be able to supply the hose you require. I did mine recently & fitted stainless ones. After removing & cutting up the old ones for disposal I discovered that the only part that was corroded was the part that went from underneath to the engine bay ( the bits with the bends in) & the rest of them showed no corrosion internally or externally at all. I presume it is because of the metal thinning in the bend areas & the extra heat in the engine bay. If you are definitely going to fit stainless ones at a later date & yours only show similar corrosion to mine then I would suggest you only need to fit about a metre of silicon to each pipe in the effected area as a temporary measure.

my pipes sound very similar to yours, the majority of the pipe itself is showing no rust or ware but as soon as you hit the first bend to enter the engine bay the whole thing becomes a rusty mess. As far as using a small section of silicone hose to repair it until I can afford some stainless or another more permanent fix goes, would jubilee clips be sufficient to join the pipes and maintain a hold under pressure?

Stainless jubilee clips will be fine, or at least I hope they will, as that is what came with the stainless kit from Brickwerks ( the 2 pipes come in 2 sections each with a rubber joining piece in the middle for easy installation)

Kev, when trying to remove my hose clips, the type in your second pic., one of them had a leg rusted through & broken underneath the hose which I could not see. I struggled to get it off for half an an hour because it had dug into the hose & I could not understand what the hell was stopping it moving when I squeezed the 2 legs.
