Did you put it under the rubber or outside where the glass meets the edge of the rubber?

Under the rubber. The fit between glass and rubber is to snug to leak. Many assume (incorrectly) thats how the water gets in but in over 30 years I've never seen a bug, bay or wedge leak via the glass edges.

A window fitter told a lonng story how it has to be rubber and glass, but rubbish it still leaked after a £30 visiting them!

Outside, between rubber and metal, all the way round.. new washer jets and a bit of plumbers mate, in around the jet for good luck! = No leaks!

Long story indeed and it doesn't leak in bottom corners either (even if it rusts there). It all comes in via very top edge and trickles down under cover of the window rubber. This is why I use sealant, new seal or not.
