Both problems were very easily remedied - hence 'faking'!

Coincidence there Although my van passed first time (last week) it did throw a wobbler. The very day before, it decided that a jubilee clip on the main front to back pipes needed to break, for no good reason, it was only slightly rusty, honest. Easy fix of course. Then, as the tester was putting it back into the car park, it decided the gear lever needed snapping off near it's base. A temp fix with weld has sorted that until I can get my bum in gear to source another one. Only on MOT day though, all the previous 12 months it has behaved pretty much impeccably

I just moved to the dark side again and going to try another t4. I had one before an early westy 1.9 but it was a bit cramped inside with the full camping interior and the 1.9 td engine was very underpowered and noisy being up front . I have gone for a later 2,5 tdi multi van this time more room inside due to no kitchen unit and loads of power its a German import with great spec climate control,cruise, factory fitted night heater, original cool box, swivel seats, original curtains, twin opening windows in the rear with fly screens, and even has original vw cycle rack. Its my first time without a full camping interior but we never cook inside the van anyway as I prefer using my stove outside or usually B/Q so should suit our needs and its got good sized bed with loads of storage underneath . My sister bought a bongo a couple of years back but not impressed she has had several problems and worst of all a lot of welding for last MOT rear arch area and rotten sills so she is now looking for a t4 after seeing my new Multi van which is older than her bongo but rust free

What about a Merc Vito 4x4 lwb Westfalia?

Go for a pre-recent facelift one (latest engines have timing chain stretch problems), the 2.2 CDI 111 is a really good engine.
Our panel van manual 'box always crunches 1-2 when cold though. About my only criticism of a great van.
The steeing wheel went twisty after 6 years too but dont they all...
Yes its dull but goes well and everythin still works after 10 years. Not had to do a thing to it, bar a downpipe clamp.
