Its not as dumb as they all say ..... Tadworth tyres can scrub the makers name off and it will not affect the side wall . If you send them up country to the guys in derby ( i think thats where they be ?) They scub the side walls then vulcanize the white wall on for around 250 quid . Just paint them and leave the makers name on there. If there is a good coat you will not be able to see the embossed names and numbers . Do not grind them yourself ........

There's a bit of difference between doing it with a grinding / sanding disc and letting a company, who maybe, know what they are doing.

Makers name is raised up so should not be structural to, but I'd bet if you declared you hade modified your tyres at all your insurer would not accept it.

The white wall section is extruded as a cow tongue and then layered, whilst still hot onto another pre extruded section that is then passed through a series of calenders forming the side wall. The white wall is slightly different dimensionally to other tyres to allow for the lettering/embossing etc further along the process.

The wall is built up over a number of layers on the builder. ANY removal of rubber from the side wall can have a detrimental effect on the structure of the tyre, never mind grinding away large sections. If it gets removed and then vulcanised this would be preferable as the wall would have a better chance of doing what it was designed to do.

Companies spend multi millions of pounds designing and researching different build techniques and compositions, leave them alone!

I hear if you take a sander to your van there is a different colour paint under the surface, might help somebody wanting to change colour on the cheap, anybody tried it?

Try Mr whitewalls if you're after diy paint or they can do it for you.

I used to make whitewall tyres for the American market at Goodyear.
It is true that the white is revealed after grinding off the black
However....
The white part is placed there in the first place, imagine a sausage roll, then slice off the side you reveal the sausage.
They were an absolute pain to make as white rubber is not easy to make and very easy to mark during the process.

Trouble with those tyres kev is they are white bands . I wanted the full ice cream van look as do a lot of people dont ask why as i just think it looks better on a van than the band . The biggest white band i could find was 50mm . Nice but not ice cream van
