Battery kill switch or simple isolator terminal is worth having if you don't use the van a lot. The clock and any security devices will be a drain, and it's so nice when you turn the key and the starter motor works, rather than that sinking feeling when it's as dead as a Dodo!
I got caught out by the parking light thing once, but fortunately, my neighbour spotted it and kindly knocked my door to ask why I had my parking lights on in the daylight!! Easy to do I reckon. But I won't do it again! (Famous last words!)

My new LED clock has a battery backup so after much thought, I wired it into sidelight circuit. Works well - if the clock is on, the lights are on. I drive with sidelights (DRLs) on during the day anyway so I'm more visible so chances of leaving lights on now are practically zero. The other approach is to use one of the unused LED holes on the dash and connect that into sidelight circuit.

put your front door key on your kill switch key ring and then see how often you forget to remove it
