Solved dizzy, removed with special too and reseated. All in now, but zero oil pressure, not even a flicker on the manual gauge. I've fed oil directly into the oil pump, spark plugs out, cranking but no go. Ideas please?

Have a read back of this thread, there is not enough information of what you are trying to do and what you have done for anybody to help.

Ok. I have swapped out a 1.9DG for a 2.1MV using all the ancillaries from the 1.9. I have fitted a 30mm oil pump but can't get oil pressure up. I have primed pump directly. I've been told oil pumps can be notorious for initial start up. I'm going to remove the two cogs and pack the figure of 8 shape left with Vaseline.

Do you know the histoty of the 2.1?
have you checked you have an oil pressure relief piston and spring it place and the right orientation?
Did you check endplay on the pump with the thick gasket (all you can buy now)?
Are you just cranking with a starter or is engine in and running under fuel?
where are you measuring oil pressure and what with?
How have you primed pump, oil pickup is not accessible from outside?

The engine was driven up from Cornwall to Guildford 18 months ago and sat since. I bought it off Simon 'spannerboy' Davey. Oil pressure relief valve- I removed it and refitted it during the build, but no thank you, I'll check. End play in pump, no I don't know that one, any more details? I've put in a 30mm pump and it was half full of oil when i took the front of it this evening. Cranking with a starter only. Oil pressure measurement via manual gauge on bottom LHS near tubes and now back on the idiot light too. Priming pump, I have rigged up a filler pipe and funnel and gravity fed direct into outlet behind oil filter. Thanks for listening itchy

My van gets some pressure up cranking but takes several seconds, did you fill the oil filter with oil too?
Sounds like you don't know if the engine had pressure before, check the pump is a good fit in the engine case, have heard some are undersize.

end float/ end play is the gap between the gears and pump body, it's described in haynes and is 0.1mm, the gasket is thicker than that so leave a large gap for oil to bypass the gears.
you can make one from quality thin paper with a scapel.

oil pressure relief piston goes flat side up and spring should be 60mm long approx.

has it got the oil cooler on?, is it new or old? Check it

You could try cranking with oil filter off to check oil comes through, may be messy though

also try pressure testing at high pressure switch ( in main gallery) as low pressure swith is off the main gallery and could just be blocked.

One more idea crank with high pressure switch out,check oil comes through, then replace and crank with low pressure switch out

No oil cooler at present, but I have purchased a Mocal from Demon Tweeks. I brimmed the oil filter. I don't know if the engine had oil presssure before, correct but it should have some sort of reading even if it's low? I replaced all gaskets with Victor Reinz set from Brickwerks including thin oil pump ones. I like the oil pressure relief valve option, could be blocked. I'll try everything you've mentioned of course, and provide update. Cheers

Itchy, you're a Legend! I have oil pressure...Pressure Relief valve, mini piston was under spring instead of on top of it...

Well not quite....it continues. They say the first year of ownership is the hardest but seriously, there seems no nut, ancillary, engine, I haven't had to sort out. Moan over. Er, right...no spark now. Got 12v up to dizzy but nothing coming through the HT lead. I have borrowed dizzy and ht leads from a neighbours working t25 but no spark?

Did you borrow the coil too and ignition amplifier and loom, not going to spark without all those?
